Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council – Social Action Programme

A project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), through Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
About the Programme
The Social Action Programme will bring residents together across ten towns and villages in the Borough to create visible, positive change in their communities.
Through a series of “social actions”, local people will regenerate, renew, or transform their areas, tackling dereliction, reimagining shared spaces, and taking pride in the places we all call home.
This cross-community initiative will also establish a Social Action Forum to encourage collaboration between “well-mixed” and single-identity towns and villages, ensuring everyone has a voice in shaping local improvements.

Aghadowey, Armoy, Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Castlerock, Glenariffe, Greysteel, Kilrea, Limavady, and Portstewart
The Programme Will Address
- Dereliction or disused areas
- Opportunities for reimaging and beautification
- Increasing and supporting communal pride
- Enabling local communities to make decisions at local level

About the Programme
The Resilient Communities Programme will support local leaders and volunteers to build capacity, confidence, and new skills while exploring fresh, innovative ways to strengthen community life.
The programme focuses on developing volunteer leadership, improving sustainability, and creating rewarding opportunities for people who want to make a difference in their communities. Participants will learn how to manage time, develop teams, and implement local solutions to shared challenges.
The Programme Will Address Key Issues Such As:
- Lack of volunteers willing to engage in community activities
- Volunteers feeling they lack skills or capacity to take on new duties
- Shortage of trained and supported volunteers
- People wanting to deliver specific roles rather than general volunteering
- Limited spare time and uncertainty about how best to use it
- Leadership capacity gaps within community groups
- Current leaders feeling overstretched or undervalued
- Lack of professional development opportunities for community leaders
- Supporting organisations to better nurture and retain volunteers
